Iconic Rupert the Bear was built by Cameron Balloons in 1991, for the Daily Express Newspaper where he appeared in the newspapers comic strips from all the way back in 1920.
The children's loveable Bear shape appeared at events around the UK including the biggest balloon festivals, such as Bristol, Southampton, Northampton. When he used to be cold inflated the commentators would get the crowd to shout 'wake up Rupert!' as he was hot inflated, Rupert was operated by Flying Pictures in the nineties. During Rupert's construction it took the team at Cameron's 1,200 hours to build him with 1.6 miles of ripstop used, when inflated Rupert stands at an impressive 148ft tall. |
